Anonymous, 1831, Annales Société d’Horticulture de Paris, 8:337-340: Introduced by Berlèse Apr.20, 1831 and named in his honour at this meeting. Raised by Berlèse from seed from the Caserta camellia in 1819. See illustration pl.17, Berlèse, 1841, Iconographie, pl.17: Flowers 9 cm across; double, incompletely imbricated, rose cerise; petals, large, round and emarginate. Orthographic variants and errors: ‘Berleziana’, ‘Berlezii’, ‘Berlèse’, ‘Berlèsi’, ‘Burlesiana’, ‘Berlezeana’. Originated in France from Italian seed.
