Carmela. (C.japonica) Camelia, La Sociedad Española de la Camelia, No.17, Dec. 2010, p.35 with colour photos; International Camellia Journal 2014, p.149 with colour photo; Reg. No. 77.  Flower is large formal double, white with bud centre showing cream. 9-11 cm diameter and 2.5-3 cm deep. Occasional flowers have 30-40 stamens, filaments greenish white, anthers yellow. Flowers fall complete. A sport of  C. japonica 'Sweetheart', observed in 1991 by Carmen Salinero Corral in the Estación Fitopatolóxica Areeiro, Pontevedra, Spain. 30 plants propagated in 2007 by graft have bloomed 100% true.  Leaf is  9 cm x 4.5 cm, elliptic, denticulate, pointed.  Plant growth slow, upright, medium density. Flowers midseason to late.
