Jay's Surprise (C. japonica). American Camellia Yearbook, 2023, p.90. Registered in 2023. ACS Registration #3349. It was originated and registered by Jay & Debbie Ellis from Keystone Heights, Florida, USA. A 10-year-old sport of C. japonica 'Ferris Wheel'. It was first bloomed in 2018. Flower: semidouble to loose peony to anemone form, deep red with yellow anthers and pink filaments, large to very large size, 12.7 cm in diameter. Leaf: dark green, 5.1 cm long and 3.8 cm wide. Plant: vigorous growth rate, spreading, opengrowth. Bloom: early to late.
