Fendig, 1953, American Camellia Catalogue: Red. Incomplete double. Early. American Camellia Yearbook, 1954, p.329, Reg. No.182: A 6 year old chance seedling, originated by Hugh Shackelford, Albany, Georgia, USA. First flowered 1953. Plant growth average with medium to large green leaves, serrated. Flower buds large, oval and red. Flowers 13-17 cm across, incomplete double, 30 petals and many large petaloids. Flower colour, red. Flowers early through mid-season. Synonym: ‘Apache’.
