McIlhenny, 1941, 700 Varieties of Camellias, p.2: Large, deep red. Mag­nolia Gardens and Nursery Catalogue, 1942-1943: "Another of our original varieties which has missed the fame it deserves by blooming in March (late), long after the last Camellia Show. One of the most difficult to propagate and a slow grower." SCCS, Camellia Nomenclature lists it as: Deep pink, marbled white. Medium semi-double to rose form double, medium, compact, upright growth. Originated at Magnolia Gardens, Charlston, South Carolina, USA.
