» English Description

Desportes, 1847, Revue Horticole, ser.3, vol.1, p.217: Flower regularly imbricated, the pink petals traversed by white lines; Porcher, 1847, Revue Horticole, p.446: Flowers a shade of pink deeper than Sacco Vera. The slender, closely packed petals are regularly imbricated in 7 or 8 rows, those in the centre, paler than the outer petals. Mercatelli, 1881, Catalogo della Camelie: Large regularly imbricated flower; very broad petals, uniform deep red. Note: This completely red form would appear to be a sport which has taken over the identity of the original variegated pink cultivar.Originated in Italy.
