Barney's Joe (C. japonica). Published in American Camellia Yearbook 2020, p.77 with 1 color photo.   Registered in 2020. ACS Registration #3172. This 20 year-old C. japonica chance seedling first bloomed in 2013. It was originated and propagated by N. C. Barnard of St. Elmo, Alabama and registered by Laura Barnard of St. Elmo, Alabama, USA. Bloom The large to very large sized 12.7cm x 7.6cm loose peony form flower is burgundy with yellow anthers. This cultivar is a profuse bloomer, falls in one piece, is long lasting and has consistent form. Plant The plant habit is upright. The growth rate is slow. The plant is suitable for landscaping and exhibition. Leaf The dark green leaves average 10.2cm x 3.8cm with low serration. Bloom season Midseason to late.
