Ashizawa, Yagorō, 1898, Chabaika Taishū; Wada, 1941, Garden Treasures of Japan, p.32: Hybrid with C.japonica, the habit and leaves showing its influ­ence, the fragrance and detached segments showing the kinship to C.sasanqua. A small, 22 petalled flower. Red with white spots and stripes. Leaves dark green, 7.9 cm x 3.6 cm. Listed under “Winter flowering varieties of C.sasanqua”. Synonyms: ‘Yae-wabisuke’, ‘Chirihime’(Kansai). The original tree is at the Reiganji Temple in Kyoto.
