ACS Registration #3002. The Camellia Journal,71(3):29 with name and color photo. American Camellia Yearbook, 2016, p. 133 with color photo and description. This 14-year-old C. japonica chance seedling of ‘Royal Velvet’ first bloomed in 2008. It was originated, registered and propagated by Pat B. Johnson of Cairo, Georgia, USA. Bloom: The large sized 12.7cm x 5.1cm semi-double form flower is dark red shading to black on the edges. It has yellow anthers and pink filaments. This profuse bloomer falls in one piece. Plant: The plant habit is upright and spreading. The growth rate is average. The plant is suitable for landscaping and exhibition uses. Leaf: The dark green leaves have low serration and average 7.6cm x 25.1cm. Bloom season: Midseason to late.
