Flowers mid-season. Petals protrude from the buds for a time before opening and can be weather damaged. Leaves, 6-8 cm long by 3-4 cm wide, ellip­tic, reflexed, serrations shallow and sharp; petiole hairy. Growth vigorous, open, spreading. Collected from Tochio City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan in 1959 by Susumu Ishizawa, named and released by Kaoru Hagiya in 1967.
