Butchie (C. japonica) ACS, Reg. No.2476. American Camellia Yearbook, 1998, p1, with color photo in color inset. 1. A very large, rose pink, anemone to peony form C. japonica chance seedling, early to late. Originated and propagated by W. T. Shepherd, N. Charleston, sc. The 8-year-old seedling first bloomed in 1990. Average size flower, untreated, is 5"-5-1/2" wide and 2-1/2" deep with 40 petals, 20 petaloid, yellow anthers and pink filaments. Average size flower, treated, is 6" wide and 3" deep. Blooms have stamen intermixed among petals. Plant growth is upright, spreading and average with dark green leaves measuring 3-1/2"-4" long and 1-1/2" wide.
