Chongqinghong

Gao & Zhuang, 1989, The Camellia in China, p.52, No.332, colour photo No.191: Medium size, 8-9 cm across, deep red, formal double, with about 60 rounded petals, some emarginte, in 7-9 rows. Leaves small, mid-green. Late blooming. Orig­inated in China.

Chongqinghong.( Camellia japonica)  Synonym: None  Originate: Chongqing  Characteristics: Plant habit vigorous, crown relatively open, upright, with average of growth in branches with medium to long internodes, globose or tubular shape of whole plant. Leaves elliptic alto rounded obovate, apex apiculate, base broad obtuse, large, flat, heavy texture and glossy surface, dark green, margins slightly upcurved, measured 8 cm to 8.5cm across by 4.5 cm to 5cm wide, serrate very tiny. Sepals open. Petals flat, imbricated regularly in multiple rows, about 60 segments, tip notched. Petaloids of most stamens, formal double, dark red, very brilliant and glossy, diameter 8 cm to 9 cm, medium in floral quantity, petals in outer rows reflexed, central petals sometimes tight as cordate shape after blooming. Flowering March to early May, with full bloom in late March to early April named as its unique characteristics in Chongqing.  Key points of identification: Typical late-flowering variety. Floral color bright red. Central petals sometimes tight as cordate shape.

周利主编、2011《川茶品种图鉴》 p.32。植株强健，树冠较开张，树姿直立，成枝力强，节间中长，呈圆头或圆柱形；叶椭圆形近倒卵圆形，先端钝尖，甚部宽楔形，大而平展，质地厚实光亮，叶色深绿色，叶缘略向上翘起，高于中脉，叶长8cm~8.5cm,宽4.5cm~5cm,叶齿不明显；花萼开张，平瓣花多轮，约60枚，瓣端有缺凹，雄蕊完全退化，呈覆瓦状排列，花径8an~9cm花大红色，非常鲜艳，具亮光，花盛开后，外数层花瓣反卷，中心花瓣有时不开放，呈鸡心形，完全重辦型，花量中等，花期晚，花期3月至上旬，盛花期3月下旬至4月上旬。本品种因重庆特有而得名。识别特征：典型的晚花品种,花色鲜艳具亮光，中心花瓣有时不完全开放，呈鸡心型。原始产地：重庆
