Chunpu

Chunpu (C. amplexicaulis × Non-reticulata hybrid 'Dr Robert K. Cutter'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.450. HB-02-8., a cross seedling (BLUO-No.37) of C. amplexicaulis × Non-reticulata hybrid 'Dr Robert K. Cutter'. Flowers red with light red at the petal edges, slightly fragrant, peony form, medium to large size, 8.5-11.5cm across and 5.5cm deep with about 18 exterior large petals arranged in 3 rows, petals thick texture, rolled outward, central small petals crinkled and mixed with stamens. Leaves green, heavy leathery, long elliptic, veins visible, margins shallowly and sharply serrate. Plant upright, tall, branches dense and growth vigorous. Blooms from late-winter to the spring of following year. The cultivar name means “Unsophistication Simplicity”.
