Waterhouse, 1951, American Camellia Yearbook, p.89: From Louis van Houtte, 1899. Very bright Camellia red. Semi-double and anemoned. Very bold and good. From Caledonia Nursery ledger entries. On p.91 Waterhouse states: “The variety Conquerant mentioned in the Ledger bears a very large, Elegans like bloom, but is much deeper in colour and is without the white flakes.”
