Biblioteca Agraria, vol.XI, 1829: Leaves large, base cordate, margins lightly turned over; flower, medium size, red coloured, marbled with purple, the petals of the circumference smooth and regular, while those of the centre are oblong and irregular. Poiteau also lists this variety Jan.1836, Revue Horticole, p.166-170. This Camellia should not be confused with the species Camellia cordifolia.
