Elizabeth Nedra Mathis (C. japonica) ACS, Reg. No.2778. American Camellia Yearbook, 2009, p110. This 10-year-old C. japonica chance seedling first bloomed in 2004. It was originated and propagated by Clayton Mathis of Douglas Georgia and registered by E. Hulyn Smith of Valdosta, Georgia. Bloom:The large sized - 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" [51/2" x 4" treated] semidouble form flower is darkred. It has ye l l ow anthers and red filaments. The plant is a profuse bloomer. The flowers fall in one piece, have heavy petal texture, are long lasting and exhibits consistent form. Plant: The plant habit is upright, dense. The growth rate is vigorous. The plant is suitable for landscaping and exhibition uses. Leaf: The dark green leaves average 3 1/2" x 2". Bloom Season: Midseason.
