New Zealand Camellia Bulletin, 1972, vol.VII, No.6, p.35, Reg. No.69: a chance C.saluenensis seedling originated by B.J. Rayner, Stratford, New Zealand, that first bloomed 1966. The plant is a slow grower with spreading, open habit, the leaves being dark green, averaging 10 cm x 4 cm. The flowers are single with 8 petals and an occasional petaloid, and measures 10 cm across x 4.5 cm deep with a large, central boss of gold stamens with cream filaments, giving the appearance of a Higo camellia. The colour is deep pink and flowers from early to mid-season.
