Verschaffelt, 1858, Nouvelle Iconographie, Book VI, pl.I: This variety was sent to us three or four years ago by Mr Luzzatti of Florence, Italy. The blossoms, larger than average, are of a vivid cherry-pink, composed of numerous small petals, ovate and regularly imbricated, often intersected by a faint, white stripe. The name expresses the arrangement of these petals, often imbricated in the form of a star. Orthographic errors: ‘Exagono Rubra’, ‘Hexagona Rubra’.
