Verschaffelt, 1852, Nouvelle Iconographie, Book VI, pl.IV. Originated from seed in Belgium, this camellia bloomed for the first time in 1850. The blossoms are amongst the largest, being not less than 13 cm in diamter. The crimson, cherry red colour is uniform. The very numerous petals are spread out, oval-lanceolate and delicately lobulate at the summit.
