Gumiao Hongzhong

Gumiao Hongzhong (C. japonica ca'YoursTruly' ×C. azalea). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.193. HA-80-1., a cross seedling (ZSD-No.5) of C. japonica ca'YoursTruly' ×C. azalea. Flowers deep red to dark red with some waxy luster, single to anemone form, small to medium size, 7.0-8.5cm across with 6 petals, petals broad obovate, thick texture, stamens united into a column, some stamens changes into petaloids, filaments red, pistil is l-2cm higher than the stamens, flowers fall whole. Leaves dark green, but easily to be variegated with yellow stripes, leathery, elliptic, margins obtusely serrate. Plant upright and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Red Bell of Ancient Temple”.

古庙红钟 Camellia ‘Gumiao Hongzhong’ 。刘信凯、钟乃盛、柯欢、武艳芳主编，2023，《第二部四季茶花杂交新品种彩色图集》，浙江科学技术出版社，第193页。 HA-80-1.杂交组合：红山茶品种‘忠实’ x 杜鹃红山茶，杂交苗编号：ZSD-No.5。花朵浓红色至黑红色，泛蜡光，单瓣型至托桂型，小型至中型花，花径7.0-8.5cm，花瓣6枚，阔倒卵形，厚质，雄蕊柱状，有时瓣化，花丝红色，雌蕊高出雄蕊1-2cm,花朵整朵掉落。叶片浓绿色，但容易出现具黄斑的复色叶片，革质，椭圆形，长8.5-10.5cm,宽3.5-4.5cm,边缘叶齿钝。植株立性，生长旺盛。夏末始花，秋、冬季盛花，春季零星开花。
