Tuyama, 1968, Camellias of Japan, pl.211, p.107, description, p.152: Leaves large, thick, broadly oblong to broadly elliptic, apex cuspidate-acuminate, flat, vena­tion slightly impressed, margins obscurely crenate, 8.4-10.6 cm long x 4.6-5.3 cm wide, petioles rubescens, 6-10 mm long, smooth. Flowers semi-double, widely opened, petals 10-16, often with unfolded, smaller petals; largest petal 4.7 cm x 3.7 cm, crenate at apical margin. Anthers yellow, filaments irregular, creamy to pinkish. Late flowering. Collected at Hōnai, Niigata Pre­fecture, Japan.
