Satō, 1975, Chūbu no Tsubaki, p.103 as ‘Hakubotan’. To prevent confusion the name was changed to Hakubotan-Chūbu. Seibundō Shinkōsha, 1979, Senchinshū, p.113, colour photo, p.237. Yokoyama & Kirino, 1989, Nihon no Chinka, p.294.  Medium size, pure white double, 4-5 rows of rounded, concave petals forming a cupped bloom with a sparse, irregular stamen group in the centre. Leaves strong, shining green, obovate-elliptic; apex acute, margins finely serrate, slightly recurved. Originated in the Chūbu District, Japan.
