Hongcheng Manjin

Hongcheng Manjin (C. japonica 'Tama Peacock' × C. azlea F1 new hybeid 'Hongwu Jixiang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.429. HAR-35-13., a cross seedling (YUJX-No.29) of C. japonica 'Tama Peacock' × C. azlea F1 new hybeid 'Hongwu Jixiang'. Flowers dark red, occasionally with white stripes at central small petals, slightly fragrant, anemone to loose peony form, medium to large size, 8.5-11.5cm across and 5.0cm deep with exterior 14-15 petals arranged loosely in 2 rows, petals obovate, apices emarginate, 5-8 large petals and a few petaloids at the center, stamens scattered, filaments red, anthers golden yellow. Leaves dark green, leathery, elliptic, margins sparsely serrate. Plant upright, compact and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from autumn, fully blooms in winter and continuously in spring. The cultivar name means “Red City Overflowing Gold”.
