Hongcheng Yejing

Hongcheng Yejing (C. japonica 'Tama Peacock' × C. azlea F1 new hybeid 'Hongwu Jixiang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.427. HAR-35-11., a cross seedling (YUJX-No.25) of C. japonica 'Tama Peacock' × C. azlea F1 new hybeid 'Hongwu Jixiang'. Flowers dark red with white markings, slightly with fragrance, semi-double to tight peony form, medium size, 8.5-10.0cm across and 5.0cm deep with 15-20 exterior petals arranged tightly in 2-3 rows, petals broad obovate, about 10 small petals and a lot of petaloids at the center, stamens nearly free at the base, filaments scattered and red, anthers golden yellow. Leaves deep green, leathery, elliptic, margins shallowly serrate. Plant upright, compact and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from autumn, fully blooms in winter and continuously in spring. The cultivar name means “Red City's Night Scenes”.
