Hongchou Wulang

Hongchou Wulang (C. azalea × C. japonica  'Mary Agnes Patin'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.44. HA-10-14., a cross seedling (DDA-No.17) of C. azalea × C. japonica  'Mary Agnes Patin'. Flowers bright red, gradually fading to light red at the petal bases, single form, medium to large size, 8.5-10.5cm across with 6-7 petals, petals broad obovate, rolled outward, wavy, edges crinkled, stamens united in a column. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, long elliptic, cuneate at the base, margins shallowly serrate at the upper part. Plant compact, dwarf and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late- summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Red Silk Dancing Waves”.
