Hongxing Jiangzhang

Hongxing Jiangzhang (C. japonica 'Tama-no-ura'×C. azalea). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.205. HA-82-1., a cross seedling (YZPD-No.4) of C. japonica 'Tama-no-ura'×C. azalea. Flowers dark red with waxy luster, petals edges with white borders that are unequal width, single form, small to medium size, 6.5-8.0cm with 5-6 petals, petals broad obovate, stamens united into a short column at the base. Leaves dark green, leathery, long elliptic, cuneate at the base, margins sparsely serrate. Plant upright and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and occasionally in spring. The cultivar name means “Red Star Medal”.
