Houlang Benyong

Houlang Benyong (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangri Guangchang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.344. HAR-14-18., a cross seedling (DGC-No.48) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangri Guangchang'. Flowers deeply peach red, slightly light red at the upper part of petals, semi-double form, large size, 10.5-12.5cm across and 5.5cm deep with 21-23 petals arranged loosely in 3 rows, petals long obovate, wavy, apices emarginate, stamens disperse. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, elliptic, cuneate at the base, margins nearly smooth. Plant upright and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early- summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Back Wavy Surges”.
