Description

» English Description

van Houtte Catalogue, 1841, 7:10. No description. Burnier & Grilli Catalogue, 1846-1847: Large flower, fire red with the centre clear red. Note: About 1844 van Houtte dropped the "Il" from several names that could stand without it such as 'Vesuvio', 'Zeffiro' etc and, while this is more acceptable orthography, Il Vesuvio is let stand for the van Houtte cultivar as the Berlèse 'Vesuvio' is a different camellia. Originated in Italy.
