Flowers semi-double, pure white or red (Currant Red 821/3) , with intermediate colour of stripes, or rarely, two colours in two halves of the flower. Inner petals sometimes wavy and intermingled with stamens. Flowers late. Originated in the Kantō area, Japan. Resembles: Shikainami, Kariginu. Said to be a seedling of Kan’yōtai. Different reading: 'Nichigetsu'. Known as 'Ichi-Setsu' in the UK. Satomi, 1956 gives 'Tōyō-nishiki' as a synonym but this name has since been used by Katayama for another cultivar.
