Luzzatti, 1851, Collezione di Camelie, p.24: Of the same form as Oblongo Decurrens but more pronounced, bright red, a superb variety obtained from seed by Carlo Luzzatti, Florence, Italy. See Verschaffelt, 1854, Nouvelle Iconographie, Book II, pl.III: The blossoms are of a uniform, cherry-red colour; the exterior petals are rounded, the interior lanceolate, perfectly imbricated in 5 or 6 concentric, spiral series. Orthographic errors: ‘L’Stalia’, ‘La Italia’, ‘L’Italie’.
