Tuyama, 1968, Camellias of Japan, pl.161, p.81, description, p.136: Large flowered snow Camellia. Leaves very dark green, elliptic, shortly acuminate, roughly serrate, 7-8.8 cm long x 2.9-4.1 cm wide; petioles 5-7 mm long, hairy. Flowers single, red (carmine 21/1) 5-6, loosely wavy, irregularly lobated petals; largest, 6.6 cm x 5.1 cm; stamens spreading, filaments creamy. Originated in Japan in the wild at Mount Zaōzan, Niigata Prefecture. Nippon Tsubaki - Sasanqua Meikan, 1998, p.246 with colour photo; English translation p.172.. Late flowering. Irregular, round leaves mixed with trumpet shaped ones. Zigzagged and bent growth. A natural seedling from a wild population of yukibata camellia (C.japonica ssp. rusticana). Named and released by Yoshitaka Fujii around 1985.
