Anonymous, 1847, Gardeners’ Chronicle, (27):434. Spae, 1847, Société Royale d’Agriculture et de Botanique de Gand, Annales, 3:459-460, pl.170: This flower is distinguished by its vigorous habit; its branches are strong, brown and very heavily foliaged; the leaves are very large and thick, of a dark green and very dentate. The flower is of the most beautiful cerise-red, very large ... the petals are large, very well imbricated and adhere strongly to the tortus, the type of flower which remains for a long time on the plant and it acquires in the end a purple violet colour. It is recorded as a seedling of Anemoniflora x ‘Sieboldii’ (Leeana Superba) raised by Mathot of Ghent, Belgium. This cultivar is also illustrated and described in Verschaffelt, 1849, Nouvelle Iconographie, Book IX, pl.III There appear to have been two other camellias distributed under the name ‘Mathotiana’. The first one is dealt with under its prior, valid name of Julia Drayton and the second one under Grand Sultan. Orthographic errors: ‘Mathioliana’, ‘Mathiotiana’, ‘Mattutiana’, ‘Matthotiana’, ‘Mattheotiana’. Synonym: ‘Mathotiana Rubra’. Chinese synonym ‘Masedi’a’na.

馬叟底亞那，Mathotiana（C. japonica），陈丽惠2013年《山茶花谱台湾情》第223页，红、完全重瓣~玫瑰型、巨大輪、中~ 晚花，1847年比利時發表。高继银、苏玉华、胡羡聪，2007. 《国内外茶花名种识别与欣赏》，第153页。比利时Mathot先生培育，系红山茶‘莲花'(Anemoniflora)品种与红山茶‘赛博迪’（Sieboldii)品种之杂交种。花红色，完全重瓣型，大型花，花瓣宽大，先端近圆，排列紧实整齐，花朵稠密。叶片浓绿色，椭圆形，叶面弓形，植株紧凑，生长旺盛。花期中至晚。

Mathotiana 玛索蒂安娜(C. japonica)红山茶。1847，比利时，根特(Ghent)，Mr Mathot。Anemoniflora (宝珠）x Sieboldii。完全〜玫瑰形、艳红色、脉纹清晰、花瓣缘颜色稍浓、时常泛蓝紫色调、大〜巨大(9〜13cm)、持久、花期1〜3月、树性直立、枝叶浓密、长势强。同种异名:Mathotiana Purple King、Mathotiana Rubra、Purple Dawn、Purple Emperor (紫皇帝）、Purple Empress、Purple Prince、William S. Hastie。突变种：Flowerwood、Sultana、Red Wonder、Red Wonder Var.、Rosea Superba(US)、Julia Drayton Var.、Mathotiana Supreme、Mathotiana Supreme Var.、Mathotiana Variegated。由于型态上非常酷似，此品种在美国曾经被命名为 'Julia Drayton`(1908, USA)，但这两个品种其实并不相同或已经模糊而难以辨认；1958年，美国南加州茶花协会(SCCS)，将ー株著名的老茶花树Mulia Drayton'重新命名登录为`Wathotiar’，提供种源的Magnolia Gardens(木兰植物园）声称原木来自于欧洲(Europe to U.S.-(Magnolia)1840's)，同时将两个品种的同种异名与延生的子代合并处理。Mathotiana (马叟底亚那)ー陈念舟,1986,杜鹃谷花园目录，p.l.
