Meihao Xiangwang

Meihao Xiangwang (C. azalea × C. japonica 'San Dimas'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.138. HA-63-1., a cross seedling (DSDMS-No.2) of C. azalea × C. japonica 'San Dimas'. Flowers red to dark red, occasionally with misty white stripes on the central petaloids, semi- double to rose-double form, sometimes peony form, large size, 10.5-12.5cm across and 5.5-6.0cm deep with 30-35 large petals arranged in 4-5 rows, when just opening, the petal edges inward rolled and when fully opening, the petal edges outward rolled, central small petals semi-erected and mixed with stamens, bloom dense. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, elliptic, cuneate at the base, margins obtusely serrate. Plant upright, growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and occasionally in the following spring. The cultivar name means “Beautiful Yearning”.
