Itō Jukyū, 1739, Honzō Hanamaki’e, vol.15: White, streaked rose-pink; cylindrical stamen cluster. Large double. Kasuya, Kamegorō, 1859, Tsubaki Irohanayose Irotsuki: Persimmon red in 3-4 tiers of. petals, with red splashes and stamens in divided clusters. Misreading of the name: ‘Sanpōzan’. Originated in Japan. (Believed extinct.)
