Ambroise Verschaffelt, 1850, Catalogue, Général, p.49. de Jonghe, 1851, Traité de la Culture du Camellia, p.115: Very full double with 400-500 petals arranged in a novel form. All long and thin, blood red, it is a true curiosity from Burnier & Grilli. Verschaffelt, 1860, Nouvelle Iconographie, Book VIII, pl.IV: Its blossoms, of medium size, and of a gorgeous cherry-red colouring, are composed of ample ovate-rounded petals, outspread and imbricated with the utmost perfection; those of the circumference are slightly emarginate; the central ones oval and full. Originated in Italy. Orthographic variant: ‘Montizumae’.
