Chinka Zufu, (before 1700) Watanabe, 1969, pl.687; Itō Tokuemon, 1788, Tsubaki Hanagata Tsuki Obo’echō: Single, blush pink with some red marks. There is a series of these medium sized singles, usually cupped, with long petals surrounding a boss of stamens. The modern Myōrenji is rose-red. Originated in Chūbu area, Japan. Different reading: ‘Myohrenji’. Sport: Shibori-myōrenji. Synonyms: ‘Myōrenji-tsubaki’, ‘Beni-­myōrenji’. The modem ‘Myōrenji’ is also known as ‘Beni-myōrenji’.
