Tuyama, 1968, Camellias of Japan, pl.132, p.66, description, p.127: Leaves, green to dark green, obovate-elliptic, suddenly acuminate, flat, coarsely denticulate, 7.4-9.5 cm long x 3.3-5 cm wide; petioles 6-7 mm long, very hairy. Flowers, pink (Rose Madder 23/2) with a few stamens; irregular, incomplete double, petals 15-32, diminishing towards the centre, with a few petaloids. Stamens poorly developed, if any. Gynoecium often absent. Flowers late season. Originated in the Buddhist Temple, Jōryūji, Toyama Prefecture, Japan.
