Nanxiangjiao

Nanxiangjiao (C. magniflora). China Regn. #2019-257. China Flowers & Horticulture, 2019, No.8, p.56. Named by Wang Xiangnan, cultivated and registered by Wang Xiangnan and Chen Yongzhong and others from Hunan Academy of Forestry. In 2004 the fruits of Camellia magniflora were collected, the seedling first bloomed in 2013. Sepals yellow-green slightly reddish, tomentose, persistent. Flowers bright red and slightly waxy texture, single form like a trumpet, medium-size, diameter 7-9.5cm; petals 5-6, obliquely heart-shaped, apex concave, slightly warped, base connected to form a tube, petals 4.5-7.5cm long, 4-6.6cm wide; stamens numerous, about 1/2 of base of outer whorls connected to form tubular, stamen base connect with petal base, anthers yellow; style 3-lobed, lower than or nearly equal to stamen length, ovary, style and filaments tomentose. Leaves green,thick, elliptic, 10-14.6 cm long, 3.5-5.8 cm wide, with sharp serrate margin. Plants compact and vigorous. The flowering period is from January to March, and full bloom in February with dense flowers.

南湘骄Camellia magniflora ‘Nanxiangjiao’. 中国茶花登录号：2019-257。《中国花卉园艺》2019年第8期56页。由湖南省林业科学院王湘南等培育并登录。本品种系 2004 年秋采集湖南省林业科学院山茶资源圃内大花红山茶（C. magniflora）果实播种实生苗，从实生苗中选育而得。2013 年 2 月首次观测到其花具特异性。萼片黄绿略带淡红色、被绒毛，宿存。花朵艳红色略带蜡质，单瓣型，微喇半开状，中型花，花径 7-9.5cm，花瓣 5～6枚，倒心形，先端内凹，略外翘，基部连生成筒状，瓣长4.5-7.5cm，宽4-6.6cm，雄蕊多数，外轮基部约 1/2 连生成管状，基部与花瓣贴生，花药黄色，花柱 3 裂，低于或近等高于雄蕊，子房被毛，花柱、花丝被毛。叶片绿色，革质或厚革质，椭圆形，长 10 ～ 14.6 cm，宽 3.5 ～ 5.8cm，叶齿尖锐。植株略紧凑，生长较旺盛。花期集中在 1 ～ 3 月份，盛于 2 月，开花稠密。
