Luzzatti, 1851, Collezione di Camelie, p.29: Pearl white, petals disposed in a spiral, perfectly imbricated. Originated in Genoa, Italy. Orthographic error: ‘Nina Durasso’. Camelie Dell'Ottocento nel Verbano, 2000, vol.1, p.15 with colour photo showing many variations of colour in a group of flowers. In the book Antique Camellias parks and gardens of lago Maggiore, vol 2: "Flower: medium, 9 cm, formal double, often imbricated in a spiral pattern, pure white. Flowering period: mid season. Leaves: small, brilliant green. Tiny, short, sparse serrations, indistinct veining. Average size: 6 x 3.5. Luzzati 1851 catalogue, Franchetti 1856/1857 Firenze, Le Camelie del Parco Durazzo Pallavicini:"They have a milky white, veined, striated pink colour, some of them are also spotted or have entirely coloured petals, with rare flowers completely pink. Only a small part of them have spiralled corollas".
Mail from Margherita Conrad:"We live in the Park of Villa Durazzo Pallavicini and have the chance and privilege of observing the trees, we have two Camellia japonica 'Nina Durazzo', during their whole flowering period. Their flowers have a milky white, veined striated pink colour and some of them are also spotted or have entirely coloured petals, with some rare flowers entirely dominated. Only a small part of the flowers have spiralled corollas".
