Gerbing’s Azalea Gardens Catalogue, 1939-1940: This Camellia is a fast, tall grower with large, round dark green foliage. The flower is 8-10 cm across; a deep, wine red to blue red. It is in full bloom in October, hence its name (very early). The form of its flowers varies from a loose peony form with stamens to semi-double.
