Chinka Zufu, (before 1700), Watanabe, 1969, pl.349: Small, dark red, rose form double. Originated in Japan. Note: The lotus flower is particu­larly revered in Buddhism and symbolizes the ideal world of Buddhism. It is believed that Bud­dha sits at the centre of a lotus flower. Many camellia names in Japanese include ‘Renge’ (or lotus) and often the expression ‘Rengezaki’ or lotus-shape is used to describe flower form.(Believed extinct.)
