Shuqi Hongyan

Shuqi Hongyan (C. azalea × 'Xiangri Guangchang'). China authorized variety number: 20240127. Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.333. HAR-14-7., a cross seedling (DGC-No.20) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangri Guangchang'. Flowers deep pink to red, some white stripes on the central petals, as the flowers opening, the color gradually changes into light color, semi-double form, medium size, 8.7-9.5cm across and 4.5cm deep with about 28 exterior large petals arranged in 3 rows, central petals semi-erected and mixed with stamens, bloom dense. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, long elliptic, cuneate at the base, margins smooth. Plant compact, upright, branches dense and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-spring, fully blooms in summer, autumn and winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Summer Holidays' Brilliant Red”.
