Chen, Shao Yun. 1985, Camellias from Zhejiang, p.63: Small tree, spreading. Leaves dark green, elliptic, medium size, slightly distorted. Flowers semi-double, irregular anemone form, scarlet, 7 cm across with 23-28 petals in 4 rows, separate or basally connate. Small petaloid stamens, about 50, clustered in the centre like a small ball about 2.6 cm across. Stamens partly petaloid, basally connate for half their length, short, tube-like, a few sep­arate. Buds brownish yellow. Blooms mid-season. Originated in Zheijiang, China.

陈绍云等,1985《浙江山茶花》63页。小乔木，树形开张。叶色浓绿，椭圆形，大小中等，稍扭曲。花疏散牡丹型。大红色，花径7cm，花瓣排列4轮，23~28枚，基部离生或连生，花心50余枚雄蕊小瓣聚集成1cm左右的小球，上洒桃红色的细纹。雄蕊部分已瓣化，未瓣化雄蕊分成3束，基部1/2连生，呈短管状；雌蕊趋向退化，子房存在。花蕾黄褐色，苞萼11~12枚。花期3~4月。
