Zhaoxia (Sichuan)

Zhaoxia. (Camellia japonica)  Synonym: None  Originate: Sichuan  Characteristics: Plant vigorous with open crown. Leaves deep green, obovate, heavy texture, glossy, central venation depressed, flat with apex apiculate, base broad obtuse, serrate shallow and sparse, measured 7 cm to 8 cm across by 4 cm to5.5 cm wide. Calyxes are green. Flowers brilliant red. Large petals, about 35 segments, fiat, with apex irregularly notched. Petaloids by most stamens, tiny, imbricated densely in centre, mixed with normal stamens, rose double form, diameter 9 cm to 11 cm in wide, large to very large sized flower, medium floral abundance. Blooming February to April, at fully blooming March.  Key points of identification: Flowers are brilliant red, with apex irregularly notched, small petaloids by most of stamens, clustered with a few stamens in centre.
