The leader of the team for the International Camellia Register, Prof. Zhonglang Wang, was awarded the David Trehane Camellia Cup by the Royal Horticultural Society in April 2024. As Prof. Wang was unable to attend the award ceremony in the UK, Mrs. Pat Short, the former President of the International Camellia Society, received the trophy on his behalf.

The award represents one of the camellia world's highest honors, which was made annually to a person who was significantly promoted or increased knowledge of the genus Camellia and its hybrids. From the letter by Keith Weed, the president of the Royal Horticultural Society, it said: ".......The RHS Woody Plant Committee ratifies the recommendation from the RHS Rhododendron, Camellia & Magnolia Group that you receive the award in recognition of your dedicated work as International Camellia Registrar. Under your inspirational leadership you have brought about transfomative improvements to the resource, ensuring the International Camellia Register is now the first point of reference for all camellia researchers. Your close attention to the detail and accuracy of the Register and your willingness to engage with those who work with you is much appreciated......"
