Camellia section Calpandria (1859)
Camellia sect. Calpandria was established as a distinct section within the genus Camellia in 1859 by Seemann, who reclassified the previously independent genus Calpandria (originally established by Blume in 1825) into the genus Camellia. This section is characterized by its unique morphological features, particularly the highly fused staminal filaments forming a fleshy tube, which distinguishes it from other sections within the genus.
