Camellia megasepala Hung T.Chang & Trin Ninh. First published in Acta Sci. Nat. Univ. Sunyatseni 35: 79 (1996).
The specimen was first discovered by Nguyen Quoc Binh in 1993 in Northern Vietnam. In 1996, Tran Ninh and Chang Hung Ta first published in the journal Acta Scientiarum Naturalium Universitatis Sunyatseni under the scientific name Camellia megasepala H. T. Chang & Tran Ninh ex H. T. Chang. The Vietnamese name is Tra Dai Dai, according to the characteristics of the large calyx (Sepal).
Tree, 5-7 m high; young branches densely hairy. Leaves stalked; petioles 6-8 mm long, pubescent; blades obovate or elliptic, 20-27.5 cm long and 9.5-11.5 cm wide, tomentose below, base cordate, caudate 1-2.5 cm long at the apex, margins densely and sharply denticulate, sometime undulate; lateral veins 11-13 pairs. Flowers yellow, 10-11 cm in diameter, terminal; bracteoles 6-8; sepals 5 (6); petals 11,pubescent on both sides; androecium numerous, 3.5-4 cm long, pubescent; gynoecium hairy, ovary 3, style 3, free to the base. Fruits and seeds not seen. Blooming season: Winter to Spring. Distribution: Na Hang, Tuyen Quang province; Ba Be National Park, Bac Can Province. Endemic species to Vietnam.

大花萼山茶 Camellia megasepala Hung T.Chang & Trin Ninh in Acta Sci. Nat. Univ. Sunyatseni 35: 79 (1996).
该标本由 Nguyen Quoc Binh 于 1993 年在越南北部首次发现。1996 年,Tran Ninh 和 Chang Hung Ta 首次在《中山大学学报-自然科学版》杂志上发表了该植物的学名 Camellia megasepala H. T. Chang & Tran Ninh ex H. T. Chang。根据大花萼(萼片)的特征,越南名称为 Tra Dai Dai。
乔木,高5-7米;幼枝密被绒毛。叶有柄;叶柄长6-8毫米,被短柔毛;叶片倒卵形或椭圆形,长20-27.5厘米,宽9.5-11.5厘米,下面被绒毛,基部心形,先端尾状长1-2.5厘米,边缘密生锐小齿,有时波状;侧脉11-13对。花黄色,直径10-11厘米,顶生;小苞片6-8;萼片5(6);花瓣11,两面被短柔毛;雄蕊群多数,长3.5-4厘米,被短柔毛;雌蕊群有毛,子房3,花柱3,离生至基部。未见果实和种子。开花季节: 冬季至春季。分布:越南 Tuyen Quang省Na Hang;Bac Can省Ba Be国家公园。越南特有物种。
