[Description] Branchlets glabrous. Leaves elliptic, 11-15 cm long, 5-6. 5 cm wide, bases cuneate, glabrous. Capsules with 1. 5 cm long pedicels, oblate, 3. 5 cm wide, 16 persistent sepals subtending a 5-locular capsule, combined diameter 5 cm; styles 5-parted, free. [Distribution] Vietnam. [Synonym] Thea pleurocarpa Gagnep., Not. Syst. 10: 130. 1942.
Description : Tree to 10 m high. Leaves coriaceous, elliptic to broadly elliptic, 9–15 by 3.5–6.5 cm; apex acute or rounded, abruptly acuminate; base cuneate; petiole 0.5 cm long. Flowers solitary at the end of branchlets. Bracteoles 2 or 3, caducous. Sepals 5 or 6, broadly ovate or orbicular, 5–8 mm long. Petals 5, white, ovate to orbicular, connate below, 1.2–1.5 cm long. Outer stamens connate below and adnate to the corolla. Ovary glabrous; styles 5, free to the base.

38.1958. 张宏达,1981. 《山茶属植物的系统研究》第16页。【标本】分布于越南。【形态特征】嫩枝无毛,叶椭圆形,长11-15厘米,宽5-6.5厘基部楔形,无毛,蒴果有长1.5厘米的果柄,扁球形,宽3.5厘米,宿萼16片,总直径5厘米,托住5室的朔果,花柱5条,离生。
描述:乔木,高达10米。叶革质,椭圆形至宽椭圆形,长9–15厘米,宽3.5–6.5厘米;叶尖急尖或圆形,突然渐尖;叶基楔形;叶柄长0.5厘米。花单生于小枝端。苞片2或3枚,早落。萼片5或6枚,宽卵形或近圆形,长5–8毫米。花瓣5枚,白色,卵形至近圆形,下部连合,长1.2–1.5厘米。外雄蕊下部连合并与花冠密着。子房无毛;雌蕊柱头5枚,自基部离生。
