tuberculate; greyish-brown below, morepubescent and less tuberculate; lateral
veins 8-10 pairs, equally conspicuous on bothsurfaces; margins serrate; pedicels
4-5 mm long, pubescent. Flowers axillary; pedicels 4-5 mm long, abundantly
pubescent; bracts and petals pubescent, stamens free, ovaries pubescent. This
variety differs from the typical species in that the leaves are thin, membranous,
elliptic, abundantly pubescent, veins relatively more pronounced, pedicels
shorter.

Young branchlet and leaf bud pubescent, leaf base cuneate, sepal pubescent outside, ovary pubescent. Fl. September to November, fr. June to November.
Distribution. China: Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Yunnan. Vietnam: Bac Kan.
Notes. Nguyen et al. (2022) treated C. sinensis var. dulcamara as a new heterotypic synonym of C. sinensis var. pubilimba. The variety bears a pubescent sepal on the outside surface by which it can be easily distinguished from tea and Assam tea. The type of the taxon was collected from the local cultivar of tea plant named “Lingyun Baihao” in Guangxi, which is suitable for producing green tea.

Sunyatsen)叶薄,膜质,椭圆形,多毛,侧脉较多,花柄较短。【形态特征】灌木,嫩枝有毛。叶膜质,橢圆形,长5-9厘米,宽3-4厘米,先端急短尖,尖头钝,基部阔楔形或钝,上面干后暗绿色,无光泽,多小瘤状突起,下面灰褐色,多柔毛及小瘤状突,侧脉8-10对,在两面均明显,边缘有锯齿,叶柄长4-5毫米,有柔毛。花腋生,花梗长4-5毫米,多毛;萼片及花瓣有柔毛;雄蕊离生,子房有毛。
根据Beverage Plant Research 2022,2:21在线发表的中国科学院昆明植物研究所撰写的题为“Taxonomic notes of three tea-plants (Camellia sect. Thea) recently described in Vietnam Camellia sinensis var. dulcamara Q.U. Le et Nguyen ”的文章,产自越南北部的北浒 (Bac Kan) 省,报道于2020年。其种加词组合自拉丁文词汇“甜的 (dulcis) ”和“苦的 (amara) ”,凸显其品饮特性——先苦后甜,即回甘。 原文指出,该新变种与大叶茶 (var. assamica) 最为接近。以新变种花瓣白色 (后者花瓣先端绿色) 、两面被毛 (后者两面无毛) 相区分。 上述论断是欠专业和欠全面的。首先,大叶茶的“花瓣先端绿色”是一个非常片面的描述,真实情况是,只有最外侧的1-2枚花瓣先端绿色,呈现萼片-花瓣间的过渡,大部分的花瓣是全白的。萼片-花瓣间的过渡是茶组乃至整个山茶属植物的共同特征,非大叶茶独有。 其次,选择大叶茶作为近缘类群是不合适的,新变种的子房3室、被毛,萼片外被毛,花瓣白色、两面被毛,与茶的另一变种——白毛茶 (var. pubilimba) 完全相同,二者为同一植物,新变种是白毛茶的异模式异名 (heterotypic synon)。
