A cross from C.japonica Lady Vansittart x C.reticulata ‘Crimson Robe’ (Dataohong), raised by David Feathers, Lafayette, California, USA. Camelliana Nursery Catalogue, 1961-1962, p.1, with colour photo on front page of catalogue: Rich crimson colour, large, semi-double with notched and crepy petals. A deep bloom with the look of an hibiscus. Blooms mid-season on a plant with upright, compact growth. Sport: Diamond Head Variegated.
